Days Intensive workshop

5Rhythms® Heartbeat
When the body is free, the heart opens

About the work

After years of participating in 40 or so Heartbeat workshops... and facilitated also... I’ve come to realize that the true power of this work lies not in performing or processing emotions but in simply meeting the energy with curiosity, openness and care.

In the early days, I struggled with the expectation to express emotions. I thought I had to “feel” in specific ways - crying, shaking or shouting - but often, this left me feeling like I was faking and further distanced from my emotional truth.

If you've ever felt pressured to “feel” a certain way or perform emotions in workshops, you’re not alone.

It’s not about how loud or expressive we are; it’s about how fully we meet what is present.
Working with Psychiatry and Neuroscience has given me new perspectives on Gabrielle's wisdom.

It wasn’t until I met the work of ex. Lisa Feldman Barrett and Gabor Maté that my perspective shifted.

It was clear that emotions are constructed interpretations of physical energetic currents, and Maté’s approach to healthy emotional expression all helped me understand that emotions aren’t something to perform or manipulate — they are something to be curious about, to meet, to investigate, to find out our relationship to, to sense, to allow, and to move with.

In this Heartbeat workshop, we’re not asked to “work with” or “heal” emotions. Instead, we are invited to meet them. We don’t need to prove or dramatize our emotional states. The goal is not to explode or purge, but to allow emotions to move through us as energy. We become curious about how we recognize when emotions show up and how we can move with them as friends who want to tell us something.

Gabrielle Roth emphasized that emotional expression is not about acting out but about moving energy. Her map encourages us to feel the raw sensations in the body and let these energies run their course, while respecting the space and the collective process.

When we meet our emotions with presence and curiosity, we allow them to be there without repression, suppression, or unhealthy expression. It’s an invitation to create space for authentic connection with our own emotional truth and to meet others in theirs.

The Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms HeartbeatMap is a meditative movement of the five essence emotions:

FEAR protects, ANGER defends, SADNESS releases, JOY connects and COMPASSION unites.

Emotions are manifestations of energy that unites body and mind in the heart. It’s energy in motion more than the content of our life’s stories. The basis for love and an open heart is to be able to sense the vibrating life in the body. When emotions flow freely and spontaneously, like blood circulating, the emotions are pure life energy that ensures our vitality and survival.

Emotions and feelings in movement practice Unhealthy expression of emotion, can contribute to illness. There is a delicate balance between healthy expression and unregulated acting-out of emotions with shallow breathing and muscle tension.

Emotions, positive and negative, can be experienced as a powerful surges of electricity going through the body. An energetic process that occurs and run its course, giving us choice about whether to act out or not.

The real experience of emotions, is experience without acting out. Simultaneously, a complete disappearance of all tension where the Heart opens and gives colors and meaning to life.
